Born in Ari, Italy in 1916, Arianella was a woman of great strength, wisdom, courage and faith. Her love of family surmounted all else and her ability to garden and cook was beyond measure. Along with Corradino, the family persevered in Italy through World War II, where she literally saved the lives of her family by providing the enemy forces with meals. Arianella took care of the family farm and their children while Corradino went off to work in Venezuela for seven long years. In 1960, they emmigrated to America to build a better life. She worked numerous jobs, but her greatest joy was spending countless hours with her beloved Corradino, in their vegetable and flower gardens and in the cantina/kitchen. Arianella had an amazing botanical talent and her flower gardens were works of art. She could grow flourishing rose bushes from individual, cut, long-stem roses. Her culinary talents included making homemade cheese, prosciutto, canning tomatoes and creating magic in her kitchen baking bread, making pasta, sauce and meatballs and incredible Italian pastries/cookies. Her greatest joy was witnessing the awe on the faces of family and friends as they delighted in her delicacies. Those creations were sometimes medicinal and getting sick was always made better because you were guaranteed a pot of amazing chicken soup. She could also carry a wonderful tune, especially on Christmas night while singing carols. She never let her inability to speak fluent English keep her from engaging in any conversation. She truly cared to learn about the lives of others and in turn, everyone that met her loved her and her beautiful smile.
