Samuel L. Smey

Samuel L. Smey, 87, of Binghamton, NY, went to be with our Lord on March 20, 2017. Samuel was married to Matilda A. Smey on May 7th, 1955; they were married for 61 years. He is survived by his wife and three daughters, Ms. Cynthia Brown, Debary, Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law, Catherine and Thomas Gaige, Chenango Forks, NY; Michelle and Marcelino Velazquez, Naples, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Judith Smey, Vestal, NY;  sixteen grandchildren and nine great grand-children; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Joseph Novak, Port St. Lucie, FL; Bernard and Yvonne Kochis, Endicott, NY; Mary Newman, Moline, Illinois; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He retired in 1990 from I.B.M. after 36 years of service, with various assignments: Manufacturing, Quality Control, Quality Engineering, Vendor Quality, Process Engineering and Research and Development. In addition, he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. At his request there will be no calling hours. A memorial mass will be offered at St. Paul’s Church, Binghamton, NY, on Monday, March 27th at 10 am. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend and celebrate his life. Lunch will be offered after the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
