In the early morning hours of Thursday, November 2, 2017 Rocco J. Marrongelli (81) passed peacefully in his sleep and joined Janet, his wife of 49 years. Before retiring and moving to Porterville, CA, Rocco was a native of Binghamton, NY where he was a teacher for 24 years at both C. Fred Johnson Middle School and Johnson City High School. After much success in high school and college football, his talent and love of the game led him to become a coach for the TC Jets in the early 70's and then the JV coach for Johnson City Wildcats. He enjoyed and excelled at many sports, including boxing as a teen, golfing at Ely Park, bowling at the Brandywine and even the marble champion as a boy.
He is survived by his two children Rocco James Marrongelli, Jr. of Sacramento and Michele Marie Marrongelli of Boston; his brothers Joseph and Anthony Marrongelli and his sister Carmie Kadlec; in addition to many in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces and countless of lifetime friends.
He will be remembered by many as a loyal friend and stalwart, the dedicated protector of his family, and a defender against injustice wherever it appeared. An old school warrior who would give you the shirt off his back if you were in need. The toughest guy most have ever met, but with the softest heart for those he loved. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy as husband, father, brother, teacher, coach and friend. The world is a little less safe with him gone; he will be missed immensely.
