Michael J. Cleney

Michael J. Cleney, 81, of Binghamton passed away after a brief illness on November 24, 2016.  He is predeceased by his parents Michael and Helen Cleney; grandson Michael Cleney III; siblings Mary, Andrew and Lillian.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years Kathryn (Abbott) Cleney; children Connie (Steve) Kattell, Michael (Kim) Cleney, and Brenda Thurston; grandchildren Tara (Jon)Sims, Matthew Kattell, Natalie Kattell and Christina Cleney; brother John Cleney; special friends Jack and Babs Kephart and family.  Mike served in the United States Marine Corp. during the Korean Conflict.  He was a legendary Barber on the Southside of Binghamton for over 55 years, known to everyone as "Mike the Barber".  He was a hard working, devoted and loving husband, father and Papa who will be greatly missed by all.  Visitation will be held on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 4 to 7pm at the THOMAS J. SHEA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 137 Robinson St. Binghamton, NY.  A Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Tuesday at the Funeral Home with Military Honors.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2507 James St. #106, Syracuse, NY 13206.
